The United Kingdom (UK) based television channel, 'Akal Channel' contributed a sum of Rs 10 lakh to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) relief fund for the flood hit families of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

The Rs 10 lakh cheque was handed over to Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Gurbachan Singh by the channel's managing director (MD) Amrik Singh Kooner here on Tuesday. The Jathedar appreciated the humanitarian effort of the channel authorities in responding to the appeal of SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar for providing help to the flood victims of the neighbouring state.

The SGPC has opened a separate cash account in a local bank for making deposits to the J&K relief fund. The Jathedar handed over the cheque to the SGPC officials later.
