“This is the third such incident in the city in the past five months,” said Baljinder Singh Bittu, chairman of the Federation of Sectors Welfare Association Chandigarh (FOSWAC) and Sector-21 resident. “We suspect miscreants are vandalising public property under the influence of liquor,” he added.

‘Need better police patrolling’

Bittu said the city needs better police patrolling at night. “I have also taken up the matter with the civic body,” he said. Meanwhile, police registered a case against unidentified people.

“We received a complaint from the Sector-21 resident, after which a case was registered,” said Ashwani Kumar, station house officer, Sector 19.

Kuldeep Singh, executive engineer of the electrical wing in the municipal corporation, could not be contacted for comment.
