The victim, a resident of Charnathal village, filed a complaint against Ravi Bawa of the same village, alleging that he raped her. The woman told the police, "After the death of my husband, Ravi started calling to console me and then started visiting my house frequently, asking me to marry him."

She said, "I found him trustworthy as he was a divorcee. He had to go to Spain and asked me to give him money for the same. I gave him `4 lakh from my fixed deposit and after returning to India, he demanded `40,000 more, saying he wanted to start a business. I gave him my jewellery and when I asked him to marry me, he started avoiding me."

The victim added that when she asked for her money, Ravi denied ever having taken any monetary help from her.

Karamjit Kaur, sub inspector at Mullepur police station said a case under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) had been registered against the accused who is still at large.
