Woman crushed to death
A 70-year-old woman of Machhian village fell prey to drunken driving. Shakuntla Devi was returning home from the fields on foot, when a Swift Dzire car (PB 07 U 2960) ran over her, killing her on the spot.

A 70-year-old woman of Machhian village fell prey to drunken driving. Shakuntla Devi was returning home from the fields on foot, when a Swift Dzire car (PB 07 U 2960) ran over her, killing her on the spot.
The driver of the vehicle tried to escape, but some men from the public chased him and managed to intercept the vehicle a kilometre away from the accident site. Eye witnesses said he had first banged the car in a wall and then ran the car over the woman.
The accused has been identified as Narinder Singh, a resident of Talwara. The Garhdiwala police took him in custody and registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence). He was said to be in an inebriated condition, when the accident happened.
