The complainant informed the Jalandhar (rural) SSP that he married Kulwinder Kaur in 2008 with a promise to send her abroad as she was post graduate and he was Class-8 pass. He said he had spent Rs 6.8 lakh for obtaining visa and both reached Australia on August 28, 2009, but Kulwinder Kaur started torturing him with the help of her relative there.

She refused to recognise him in a hospital where he was admitted after an accident. Ranjit Singh said he came back to India. The SP (headquarters) inquired into the matter and sent his report to the district attorney for legal opinion who recommended registration of a case under Section 420 of the IPC.
