Work on three major roads to continue

In order to strengthen and upgrade the three major roads of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar besides widening the Garhi Kanugo Chowk, tenders of work worth more than Rs 9 crore have been allocated and the work on it would commence after the rainy season, deputy commissioner Tanu Kashyap said here on Tuesday.

She said that Rahon-Nawanshehar-Balachor road was near completion whereas work on 9.33 kilometre stretch of Banga-Garhshankar road, 14.50 kilmetre of Balachaur-Bhaddi road and 10.60 kilometre road from Mahilpur-Phagwara upto Behram would commence soon. Besides in order to avoid accidents at the Garhi Kanungo Chowk Rs 50 lakh have been earmarked for improvising its design and widening it, she added.

Reviewing ongoing developmental works in the district, the DC said that in order to provide basic civic amenities in the rural areas on urban pattern, the approval has been given for laying down the sewerage in seven villages including Chak Mai Dass, Meerpur Jattan, Hansro, Sona, Simbal Majra, Bhadoli and Chahal Khurd at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore.

Besides approval has also been given the 31 Water Supply Schemes under the National Rural Water Supply Program under which Water Supply Scheme in 36 villages would be upgraded for providing potable drinking water to the people and new water houses would be constructed in two villages. She hoped that the under construction sewerage treatment plant at Banga would be completed by September and one at Nawanshahr would be completed by December.
