The department of community medicine at Government Rajindra Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday celebrated World Health Day here.

Speaking on the occasion, vice-principal of the college, Dr Anita Gupta stressed on the need for planning health services with a focus on the elderly population.
She said family support, social support and recreational facilities should be provided to elderly people, and pension distribution should be adequate and prompt.
Dr Paramjeet Kaur, head of the department, spoke on the theme of the day, 'Ageing and Health', while Dr BL Bhardwaj, professor of medicine, elaborated the prevalence and ill-effects of hypertension and related non-communicable diseases among elders.
Various dignitaries from the faculty of the medical college and allied nursing college were present on the occasion.
