Criticising the central government's move to send its fact-finding team to look into alleged scam in the Punjab education department, the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) on Friday said the Congress leadership at the Centre by doing so had attacked the federal structure of the country.
Patiala district president, YAD, Preetinder Singh, in a statement said the team sent by the Congress-led UPA government to collect facts on the purchase of books for libraries in primary schools is an effort to tarnish the image of the SAD-BJP government and was a conspiracy in which some state Congress leaders were also involved.
“It is completely illegal and unprecedented when the Centre has sent its own team to inspect the irregularities when an inquiry into it was already being conducted. A number of scams have come to light in the Congress-ruled states. Why any such team was not sent to these states,” questioned the district YAD chief.
The YAD would launch a statewide campaign against the UPA government, he stated, adding that the party would burn the effigy of the state and Central Congress leaders for this move.
The YAD leader said since the Congress has been demoralised after facing defeat in many elections recently, its state leaders were now using the central government against the SAD-BJP government. “The YAD will not tolerate such an attitude of the state Congress leaders and would expose them before the public along with the scams committed by the UPA government in the recent years. The central government was sending its team to Punjab to cover their failures just before the Lok Sabha polls,” said the YAD leader.
