Youth accuses RPF man of beating him up

A youth was allegedly beaten up by a railway police force (RPF) official at Abohar on Thursday. In a statement, Indra Nagri resident Sanjeev Sharma complained that he was smoking on a train from Abohar to Malout when Gopi Chand, an employee of the RPF who was wearing civil dress, came there and asked him to stop smoking following which he threw away the cigarette.

But when he asked Gopi Chand to show his I-card, he allegedly started beating him up and later dragged him to the railway police station, he alleged. At the police station, Gopi, along with other policemen, tortured him, he alleged.

The victim was sent to the local civil hospital. Pawan Kumar, in-charge, GRP police station, recorded the statement of the victim and said the guilty would be taken to task.
