In an apparent case of honour killing, a youth on Tuesday allegedly hacked his 20-year-old sister and her lover to death in Sirsa district.

The deceased have been identified as Suman of Sahuwala Pratham village of the district and Sonu, who hailed from Pandu Khera of Abohar in Punjab. The accused, Hardeep, is on the run.

The police said the duo was sitting in Suman’s room when her brother Hardeep allegedly saw them in an objectionable position. He hit at his sister’s head with a sharp weapon, killing her on spot. Sonu tried to run but Hardeep chased him and attacked him too. He managed reach his aunt’s house and she rushed him to hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Sonu had been living with his aunt in Sirsa for a long time and he fell in love with Suman as both lived in the same neighbourhood.

Bara Guda police station house officer (SHO) Kanwar Singh said they have registered a case against Hardeep. He said there was no caste angle to the case as both victims belonged to Meghwal caste.
