Three suspected members of the outlawed Tritiya-Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TPC), a Maoist splinter group, were gunned down in an encounter with security forces near Dundur hillock in Jharkhand’s Palamu district on Monday, according to officials.

Two bodies have been retrieved from the encounter site in a remote region called Kala Pahar. Two AK-47 rifles were also recovered from the spot during search, officials said.

Kala Pahar under the Chhaterpur police station in Palamu district had once been a Maoist hotbed where CPI (Maoists) had killed seven policemen and injured six others in a land mine explosion in January 2016.

Police said the search in and around the encounter site was on.

“Three ultras have been gunned down. Two dead bodies, along with two AK-47 rifles, have so far been retrieved,” said the Palamu superintendent of police Indrajit Mahatha.

Sources said the encounter was triggered when security forces were patrolling the area following a tip-off about Maoists’ movement near Dundur hillock in Hisag Kondwaria area around 12.30 pm.
