After battling for life for a fortnight, a minor girl who was raped and burnt alive at a village in Pakur district on May 4 succumbed to her injuries at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) on Friday.
“The minor girl, who had received around 85% to 90 % burn injury, succumbed to her injuries at around 5am on Friday. She had been admitted at BGH burn unit on May 7 in critical condition from a private hospital in West Bengal,” said Dr B Mandal, associated with the burn unit.
The minor girl was raped and later set on fire by her neighbour in a village of Pakur district, over 300km north east of the state capital, Ranchi, on the night of May 4.
Initially, she was admitted at Pakur sadar hospital but was referred to nearest Geetaram Hospital in Malda district of West Bengal as her condition was critical.
The state government and the Pakur district administration took the cognizance of the horrific incident and brought the victim to Bokaro General Hospital for special treatment.
A senior medical officer of Pakur sadar hospital, Dr Amit Kumar, was deputed to ensure best possible treatment in order to save her life. However, she could not survive due to high percentage of burn injury, said doctors.
A day after the crime, Pakur police had arrested the accused, identified as Bacchan Mondal, in connection with the case and sent him to judicial custody.
