They say A.R Rahman’s songs take time to grow on you and it takes multiple listens to warm up to the Mozart of Madras’s album. In the case of his latest work, 2.0, you fall in love with the two songs released on October 27 evening, at the film’s grand audio launch quite possibly in the first hearing itself. The album features three songs, but the makers released only two tracks and have reserved the third track to be released later on another special occasion.
“Endhira Logathu Sundariye”, the first song of the album, oscillates between a melodious duet and a fast-paced techno number well aided by instantly catchy beats. The music sounds so fresh and is in line with the theme of the film. The song, believed to be the lone track in the film, explores love between two robots and lines such as “Minsara Samsarame” (electronic wife) are a novel touch by lyricist Madhan Karky, whose career took off with Enthiran with the popular number “Irumbile Oru Irudhaiyam”. Vocals by Sid Sriram and Sashaa Tirupathi, a regular in Rahman’s camp, do complete justice to the track and we can’t wait to see Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson match steps to the groovy beats. Apparently, the makers spent a whopping Rs 18 crore to shoot this song.
“Raajali”, the second track, going by the lyrics could be a victory anthem and the opening orchestration is breathtaking. The song, with its slow tempo, slowly builds pace with electronic beats and impressive lyrics by Madhan Karky. It’s tough to pick the best song but one can easily be floored by “Raajali” after listening to the songs a few times. “Endhira…”, on the other hand, will be loved when audiences get to watch the out of the world visuals in the film.
The third track was performed by Rahman at the audio launch and it’s equally good. Over the course of next two months, theme tracks and the film’s background score will be revealed.
