, Ekta Kapoor is all set to make her mark in Marathi cinema this year. Her maiden regional production,
Taaryanche Bait
(An island of stars) premieres today evening at the ongoing Pune International Film Festival.
Interestingly, the suggestion came from A Wednesday director Neeraj Pandey, who is also making Special Chabbis with Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures. Some time last year, Pandey discussed a Marathi film with Kapoor about a Marathi film script.
“Regional cinema is growing and in recent years Marathi films have fared very well commercially. We share a great relationship with Neeraj Pandey,” says Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji Motion Pictures. Helmed by State award winning writer Kiran Yadnynopavit,
Taaryanche Bait
features Sachin Khedekar, Ashwini Giri, Vinay Apte and Kishore Kadam amongst others, and is filmed by Sudhir Palsane, the award winning cinematographer of last year's acclaimed Marathi film, Gabricha Paus.
Kapoor, who is producing the film under her banner Alt Entertainment in association with Pandey's Friday Filmworks, spoke about how her production house is known to push boundaries in content creation, be it movies or television. “This is a humble endeavour to create something for the discerning and evolved Marathi-speaking community, which is an important audience for our content. I look forward to the response to our first step in this direction,” she said.
