Hemant Dhome’s second directorial a full-on entertainer
The actor-director next, Sataracha Salman, is about a small town boy who wants to be a superstar
After socially relevant and hard-hitting films such as Poshter Girl (2016) and Baghtos Kaay Mujra Kar (BKMK; 2017), actor-director Hemant Dhome will be making his first masala entertainer with Sataracha Salman. The film tells the journey of a small town boy, who wants to be a superstar. The cast of the film is being kept under wraps for now and Hemant says, “A newcomer will play the lead, and we have established actors for the rest of the ensemble. Also, there is a surprise element with regards to me in the film.”
Hemant made his debut as a director last year with BKMK and is often seen as part of films that give out a social message. However, Sataracha Salman will be a full-on entertainer. “I have acted in a few entertainers but have never written a script for one. This time, I decided to make a total fun film which can be watched by everyone. It is a new-age family entertainer with fight sequences, dance, drama and most importantly logic. I don’t want the audience to leave their brains at home when they come to watch the film.”
After this film, Hemant will start work on his next film, which will again be based on a socially relevant topic. “I feel, the silver screen has a lot of power and it should be used to influence people, in the right way. There are many real stories around us which need to be told.”
With so many writing and directing projects, has acting taken a back seat for him. “Honestly, writing and directing takes up a lot of time. Hence, I have not been able to act much. I do miss it and hopefully I will get back to it soon. Acting is my first choice always. I do find writing boring sometimes, but I have to write, if I want to direct.”
