Introducing Rama Lakshmi: Samantha Akkineni’s character from Rangasthalam. See pic
Rangasthalam is a rural drama. Needless to say Samantha Akkineni’s Rama Lakshmi channels rustic charm.regional movies Updated: Feb 09, 2018 13:47 IST
On Friday, the makers of upcoming Telugu film Rangasthalam teased the first look of Samantha Akkineni’s character. Called Rama Lakshmi, we see a woman, at once playful, mischievous and seductive; the character is a rustic damsel, but certainly not in ‘distress’.
When the less than 30-second teaser opens, we spy Samantha from the back. Wearing south Indian half sari - lehenga, blouse and dupatta - she is walking towards a source of water (perhaps a river). She walks alone but with attitude. Next shot shows her riding a cycle in similar attire, first from the back but soon we see her face in a close-up. She wears a stern look. Later, a number of women are seen carrying hay on their heads with tiffins in their hands. Samantha too walks with them. At one point, she turns towards the camera and flashes a coquettish smile and then looks away. The last shot has her in the shallow end of a river, one foot of a low rock and a hand on the hip. She is washing clothes but soon, she looks straight ahead.
Looks like Samantha is trying hard to do away with her girl-next-door avatar and don a wilful woman’s image as Rama Lakshmi.
Rangasthalam, which is directed by Sukumar, features Ram Charan in his maiden rural avatar. It is being shot predominantly against a rural set up in Godavari district. In January, Ram Charan had posted pictures from the film’s Rajamundhry shooting schedule. “Rajamundhry bound for the next few days. Good to be back to shooting closer to the beauty of Godavari and people’s love here,” he wrote.
A rural drama, Ram Charan will be seen in a dhoti-clad avatar. That also explains Samantha’s character Rama Lakshmi’s overall look in the film. Rangasthalam will also feature Pooja Hegde in a special song.
