Writer-director Raju Murugan is known for his hard-hitting films. After Cuckoo and Joker, he is teaming up with Jiiva for a project titled Gypsy, a social drama that’ll instantly strike a chord with today’s audiences. The project was officially launched with a puja on Monday and it is slated to go on the floors very soon. Jiiva, who tasted success in 2017 after a long time with horror-comedy Sangili Bungili Kathavu Thorae, is said to have given his nod to this project in the very first sitting.

Meanwhile, Jiiva is getting ready start shooting for upcoming Tamil heist comedy Gorilla. A real chimpanzee will play a key role in the film, which also stars Arjun Reddy fame Shalini Pandey. Last week, the film was officially launched with a puja and was subsequently followed by regular shooting. Apparently, the makers will soon head to Thailand for a month-long schedule to shoot some sequences. According to a source from the film’s unit, the Samut training station in Thailand trains the chimp named Kong for the role and hence the shooting of a major chunk of the film will happen there. Being directed by Don Sandy, the film also stars Radha Ravi, Sathish, Muniskanth, Yogi Babu and Mottai Rajendran.

Jiiva, meanwhile, awaits the release of two projects. His romantic-comedy Kalakalappu 2, which also stars an ensemble cast of Shiva, Jai, Catherine Tresa and Nikki Galrani, is gearing up for February 9 release. His second release would be psychological thriller Kee, which will be a thriller that will shine the spotlight on the ill effects of modern technology. This Kalees directed film will also touch upon the Blue Whale game which took the internet by storm very recently.
