If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan and director Shankar are set to reunite for the sequel to their 1996 Tamil blockbuster Indian, which had released in Telugu as Bharatheeyudu and as Hindustani in Hindi.

Apparently, Indian 2 will be made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu, and will be dubbed in Hindi as Hindustani 2. Telugu producer Dil Raju will bankroll the project in all the languages. It is rumoured that the official announcement of the project will be made later today. It’s quite possible that it could be made at Bigg Boss as today happens to be the finale of the popular reality show which Haasan has been hosting.

In Indian, one of the biggest blockbusters of Tamil cinema, Haasan played a 70-year-old freedom fighter turned vigilante who goes against corruption and doesn’t even spare his son, also played by Haasan, in the process. Haasan’s old man look was one of the biggest highlights of the film and it has to be seen if the same character will be brought back in the sequel. In the last scene of Indian, Haasan tells his son that he will be back if the need is there.

It is believed that Indian 2 will be Haasan’s last film before he takes the political plunge. Not long ago, he had announced a Tamil-Hindi bilingual political thriller Thalaivan Irukkiran and Amar Hai.

However, there’s been no development on the front since the project was announced. Haasan also has the long-delayed Vishwaroopam 2 due for release and the Tamil comedy Sabash Naidu, which has been put on the backburner.
