Kranti Redkar’s special birthday plans
Actor-director Kranti Redkar talks about the simpler times of birthday celebrations and what she will be working on next
Kranti Redkar will turn 36 on Friday and the actor-director will be spending the day with family. Recalling childhood memories of her birthday celebrations, Kranti shares how everything was simple yet so special. “I had birthdays similar to most ’80s kids back then. We would have a party where wafers, cake with icing from a local bakery, one savoury and some chocolates would be served. It would all be so simple, yet it would be a special time,” says the Kaakan (2015) director.

This year, Kranti will not be working, unlike her previous birthdays. On her plans this year, she says, “I consciously tried to avoid working on my birthdays after I got married. Sameer (husband, Wankhede) takes me out for dinner and the previous night we have a cake-cutting session at my in-laws’ place. I also visit a Swami Samarth temple on the morning of my birthday. This has been a yearly ritual.”
Gifts are a special part of everyone’s birthdays and Kranti recalls being thrilled about them as a child too. She shares how unwrapping even the smallest gift would give great joy. “As kids, we would receive basic items such as a pencil or even a compass box. However, it was a big deal back then. I remember receiving a magnetic compass box one year. And, how I was so eager to use it. But mum would always want me to save it for the next year,” she says.
Kranti will be seen next in Truckbhar Swapna with Makarand Deshpande and another Marathi film, Rockey. “I was recovering from an accident and hence could not shoot for the past six months. Now, I am going to be seen in these two films and also working on a few scripts which I may direct or produce,” says the Fakta Ladh Mhana (2011) actor.
