Superstar Rajinikanth is among the highest paid actors in the country. If the industry grapevine is to be believed, he may get paid Rs 65 crore as remuneration for his next Tamil film with director Karthik Subbaraj. Sun Pictures, the company which is bankrolling the film, had previously produced Enthiran, which is one of the biggest blockbusters of the country.

According to a Times of India report, Rajinikanth has set aside 40 days for the film, slated to kick off from June. When Sivaji released in 2007, it was announced that Rajinikanth was the second highest paid Asian actor after Jackie Chan. So will the Rs 65 crore pay check make Rajinikanth the highest paid Asian actor ever? We will have to wait and watch.

The Subbaraj-Rajinikanth film also stars Vijay Sethupathi, who is rumoured to be playing the antagonist. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth currently awaits the release of Kaala, which has been directed by Pa Ranjith. It’s his second-time collaboration with the superstar after Kabali. The film, confirmed to hit the screens on June 7, is believed to revolve around the lives of oppressed Tamils in Mumbai and their fight for equality.

Produced by Dhanush, the film also stars Nana Patekar, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Huma Qureshi and Samuthirakani in pivotal roles. It will have a simultaneous release in Telugu along with the Tamil version.

Meanwhile, Shankar’s 2.0, a sequel to Enthiran, was supposed to originally hit the screens on April 27. The release of the magnum opus, rumoured to be made on a lavish budget of Rs 450 crore, has been deferred once again owing to high VFX work.
