Why Katappa killed Baahubali? Film’s director SS Rajamouli has the answer.(Dharma)

Baahubali won the National Award recently and the old question was resurrected once more: Why did Katappa kill Baahubali? We were resigned to the fact that we would just have to wait till the end of this year, when Baahubali 2 releases, to find the answer.

However, filmmaker SS Rajamouli has taken pity on us and revealed why Katappa killed Baahubali in a video posted by Dharma Productions on YouTube. Although, you should take it with a pinch of salt.

Rajamouli says Katappa killed Baahubali because, “I asked him to do it!” Ugh, the hubris of a director.

So after all, we will have to wait for some more months. In the meanwhile, this is what the director has to say about Baahubali 2.

SS Rajamouli on Baahubali, its sequel and Karan Johar

On Baahubali part 2

Part 2 will be bigger than the first film but its USP will be emotions between the characters. It will be something that will keep the audience transfixed even more than the war scenes. The film will release late in 2016.

On the challenges while making Baahubali

We shot for 380 days and by the time we reached 320 days I could feel a sense of exhaustion in the whole unit. In our industry, the energy flows from the director. I was myself very tired and keeping the tempo up for the last 60 days was the biggest challenge.

On working with Karan Johar

Despite our sensibilities being very different, I somehow felt we would gel. When Rana took our project to Karan, our love for cinema brought us together. It was a very fruitful collaboration and he is a big part of Baahubali’s success.

On who played pranks on the set

I will kick any prankster on the set. How can there be pranks when such serious job is going on?
