Jaisha to train from next week against medical advice

BENGALURU: Athlete OP Jaisha is confident that she can start her training next week having recovered well from H1N1 fever which she contracted during the Rio Olympics even though the SAI doctor has advised her a month’s rest.
“After getting discharged from the hospital on August 29, I am taking rest in my native — Thrissilery village near Manananthavady in Wayanad district. I will start from training from next week,” Jaisha said.
Jaisha had returned from Rio with fever and body ache and was hospitalised after she was tested positive for H1N1, couple of days after another athlete Sudha Singh was found to be suffering from the same disease.
BOXING STALWARTS DEMAND REVAMP
NEW DELHI: Indian boxing’s biggest names are demanding an all systems reboot to halt the sport’s decline after a medal-less Olympic campaign in Rio and their roadmap goes beyond having the much delayed national federation.
“There has to be some accountability. First there should be a federation and secondly there should be action against officials and coaches who are responsible for the current state of Indian boxing ,” Beijing Olympics bronze medal list Vijender Singh said.
Only three Indian boxers had qualified for the Rio Games, a sharp decline from the 8 who made the cut four years ago.
“Having a Federation is an absolute must. Once it is done, we can have qualified coaches to improve performance,” said Mary Kom, a five-time world champion and London Olympics bronze-medallist.
DELHI HALF MARATHON ON NOVEMBER 20
NEW DELHI: The ninth edition of the Delhi half marathon would be held on November 20. Entry for the event started Tuesday and would close on September 30. Besides competition for elite runners (21km), events for senior citizen’s and champions with disability would also be organised. Overall prize money would be $ 2,70,000 (Rs 18 crore).
