PORT OF SPAIN: Despite getting an unassailable 2-0 lead in the Test series, India are in no mood to loosen their grip on West Indies as they are looking to win the fourth and final Test in Trinidad to take the rubber an unprecedented 3-0. Ahead of a long home season, this is not only a great chance to finish an overseas tour well, a 3-0 win will also propel India to the summit of the ICC rankings before taking on New Zealand in September.
India arrived in Port of Spain on Independence Day but took the day off. On Tuesday though, the entire squad, barring all pacers except Umesh Yadav, turned out at the Queen’s Park Oval. Intermittent rain forced India to train indoors and the pitch to remain under covers but according to the locals, this will be a track that could start turning from the second day of the Test. That could mean India could retain the team of the third Test. India captain Virat Kohli anyway isn’t a big fan of breaking the winning combination. Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a crucial and unbeaten 78 in the second innings of the St Lucia Test, said the team is aiming to dominate West Indies completely.
“The mood has been fantastic in the dressing room. Our goal is to play attacking cricket and dominate West Indies here because it is important to finish well on this tour,” said Rahane. “3-0 will be very good and yes our long term goal is to be the number one team. But right now it is important to stay in the present moment,” said Rahane.
