BWF World Championship 2021 Highlights: HS Prannoy crashes out; Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen in semis

Loh wins the second set as well and confirms his place in the semis where he will face Anders Antonsen. A very dominating show in the second set as well and he comfortably scripted his first win against Prannoy in three attempts. He had earlier lost twice against the Indian, both in 2019.

Eight straight points, four more after the break, and Loh has added to Prannoy's woes. There is no way back for the Indian now.

A dominating second half of the opening set sees the Singaporean take home the first set which witnessed a stunning 48-shot rally that put Loh on match point.

Some quality badminton from either of the players. Meanwhile, some unforced errors sees Prannoy fall behind by two points after the interval.

Quite a few long rallies in the early part of the opening set. Loh has taken a comfortable three-point lead at the interval.

A 25-shot rally saw Prannoy win his second point after a sluggish start saw the Singaporean win the first three points. Prannoy then fought back with some aggressive smashes to win two more quick points and take the lead.

Anders Antonsen became the third semifinalist in men's singles after his opponent retired hurt. He will be up against Prannoy in the second semifinal tomorrow, if the Indian emerges victoriously over Kean Yew Loh

"I was confident in rallying it out. Both of us made some mistakes. At 20-all I slipped but I managed to pull off a winner and I got a bit lucky. I haven't played Srikanth in three years, it's been a while, so it will be a good match. He's playing really well, he's beaten opponents in single digits this week. I'm also playing well, and we both play an attacking style. Let's see who makes the final. India is assured of a finalist, so that's a good thing. I will go all out."

"I just told myself I had to be in the match, I didn't want to give a big lead or make easy mistakes, I had to be focussed. I'm happy to reach this stage. Coming into this tournament, I was only thinking of the first round. From there it was only about the next match."

He has faced the Singaporean shuttler twice before, both in 20219 and defeated him 21-15 21-14 in New Zealand Open and 21-8 12-21 21-17 in Tong Yun Kai Cup 2019

Previously, Prakash Padukone (bronze in 1983) and B Sai Praneeth (bronze in 2019) were the medals winners in men's singles. PV Sindhu has five medals in the showpiece while Saina Nehwal has two medals to her name. The women's doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa had also won a bronze in 2011.

Having assured himself a medal with a nail-biting win in the quarters, Lakshya Sen has become the youngest male shuttler to win a medal at the Worlds

India still have one more match left in the quarters where HS Prannoy will be up against Kean Yew Loh from Singapore. Could there be a third assured medal for India?

With Lakshya joining Srikanth in the semis, India have assured themselves at least two medals in the BWF Worlds 2021. This is the first time two players in men's singles categories have reached the semis from India and the two will be up against each other in the first semi-final game tomorrow.
