India finally tasted victory after two days of losses. The 14-year-old Indians hardly had to break into a sweat to thrash Sri Lanka 3-0 in the Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying of the Junior Fed Cup on Thursday.
Out of contention for a quarterfinal berth, their aim now is to finish within the top-10 of the 16-nation meet. "This time round we hope to finish within the top-10," said captain Shalini Thakur Chawla
On Friday India will be playing for the 9-16th positions.
The Sri Lankans hardly posed a threat to Jasmine Kaur Bajaj and Tahira Bhatti. As Jasmine ousted Shankari Thayakaran 6-4, 6-1 in just over an hour, Tahira took only 51 minutes to script India's first win in the tournament.
The India No. 1 beat Vinuri Wickramaratne 6-1, 6-0.
