Jankovic regains world Number 1 spot

Jelena Jankovic of Serbia was confirmed as regaining the world No.1 ranking on Monday following her win in the WTA tournament at Stuttgart on Sunday.

Jelena Jankovic of Serbia was confirmed as regaining the world No.1 ranking on Monday following her win in the WTA tournament at Stuttgart on Sunday. She takes over from Serena Williams in the sixth changeover at the top since Justine Henin retired in May.

Jankovic held the top ranking for just one week in August before being overtaken by compatriot Ana Ivanovic.

Paes moves up two places

Leander Paes moved up two places to be at sixth position in the ATP doubles rankings announced on Monday. Mahesh Bhupathi, on the other hand, is static on his last week's 12th position. In the men's singles rankings, Prakash Amritraj has dropped three places to 228 whereas Somdev Devvarman too lost a place to be at 240th position. A recovering Sania Mirza, has slipped to be in 98th position among women's singles players.
