Japan pushed powerhouse China to the limit before going down 2-3 in the summit clash of the 19th Asian Table Tennis Championship on Friday.

Zhang Jike defeated Matsudaira Kenta in a gruelling reverse singles match of the men’s final to give China the title. In the women’s final, China brushed aside the challenge of last edition’s runners-up, Singapore, 3-1.

Indian men beat Singapore 3-2 to finish seventh. In the decider, Soumyadeep Roy beat Cai Xiaoli 3-2.
