Rooney in contention for United against City

Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand will undergo late fitness tests before Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson decides whether they can play in Saturday's derby against Manchester City.

Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand will undergo late fitness tests before Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson decides whether they can play in Saturday's derby against Manchester City.

Ferguson said Friday that Rooney is likely to recover from an ankle injury in time for the match. He says the England striker "has done some sort of work in the last couple of days." Ferguson says Giggs and Ferdinand are behind Rooney in their recovery from hamstring and groin problems, respectively.
