The Indian women’s cricket team were defeated by England in the final of the Women’s Cricket World Cup, but their fighting performance won praises from various celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan.

It was a day of heartbreak for Team India and millions of their fans when they came agonisingly close to claimed their maiden Women’s World Cup title on Sunday. (VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS)

The England Women Cricket team beat India by nine runs in the thrilling ICC Women’s World Cup final. England scored 228 for seven, while India was dismissed for 219. (MATCH REPORT)

It was a sad end to a brilliant tournament for the Indian team, but Sachin Tendulkar urged them to take the positives from their performance.He took to Twitter and posted: “Feel for all of you, #WomenInBlue! You were good throughout but sometimes it is not meant to be. Congrats England on winning #WWC17Final!”

Former Indian cricket team coach Anil Kumble praised the team’s effort on Twitter and saluted their sensational journey in the tournament: “Well played Team India. This was an inspirational journey for #WWC17”

Indian cricketer Suresh Raina followed suit as he posted: “An amazing play by the #WomenInBlue ... @BCCIWomen you did well! #ENGvIND #ICCWomensWorldCup2017 #WWCFinal #WWC17”

Cricketer Hardik Pandya too wished them for their ‘brave performance, “#TeamIndia, the entire nation is proud of your brave performance at the #WWC17!”

Cricketer Yusuf Pathan tweeted, “Well played girls @BCCIWomen we are proud of your effort. Just couldn’t get over the line but it was an amazing tournament.”

Ace shooter Gagan Narang shared, “Despite the outcome welldone @BCCIWomen for the dream run and exceptional performances #WWCFinal17 #INDvsEng Good Luck for the future”

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan also took to Twitter to share his words of appreciation for the ladies, “T 2494 - Until you loose, you shall never know the joy of victory ! Well played ladies .. Bhartiya Nari Zindabad !! WWC17”

Akshay Kumar, who was present at Lord’s to cheer the Indian women’s cricket team, tweeted, “Even Broken Hearts Can Laugh!!These Women have started a revolution & I couldn’t be more proud #WWC17Final”

Anya Shrubsole picked up 6/46, the best haul by a bowler in the final of an ICC event as England clinched the Women’s World Cup for the fourth time in their history.
