Speculation about actors Ranvir Shorey and Konkona Sen Sharma’s marriage falling apart has been rife for a long time. Recently, there was another report that claimed the two were living apart. Ranvir, who has maintained a stoic silence on the subject so far, finally opens up:
Did you ever think of filing for a divorce?
The gossip media tries hard to tell people what’s happening in celebrities’ lives, but they fail miserably. They print lies shamelessly without clarifying or apologising. It’s an abuse of power. I never hid when I got married, so why would I deny it if I was getting divorced?
Were Konkana and you having any differences?
Every couple has differences, but does that mean they’re getting divorced? Interestingly, there were no differences when the rumours started doing the rounds. Such speculation is only to entertain people, but I would rather do that by performing in good films than with rubbish stories.
Why didn’t you or Konkona react to the speculation?
I’m not a big industrialist. I can’t take action against the people spreading these rumours. I’m just a struggling actor and I don’t have a team of lawyers to fight my case. Konkona is more mature at handling this than I am. I still fly off the handle, but she is very strong.
You also have a son.
I’m happily married. We’ve recently moved into a new apartment in Versova and we have a two-year-old child. I take him to playschool and bring him back home. We share his responsibilities on alternate days, just like every other happy family.
What made you sing your next film, Bajatey Raho?
Shashant (Shah; filmmaker) and I go back a long way. We’ve worked together before. He has a great flair for comedy. The script and my role are interesting.
You’ve also done mainstream films with Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. Will we see more of you in such projects?
Even if I am doing a mainstream film, I look for something offbeat in my role. That was the case with Ek Tha Tiger (2012) as well.
Is there competition between actors doing unconventional movies too?
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Irrfan and Vinay Pathak are all great actors. But my kind of cinema is different from Nawaz and Irrfan’s. Each of us has our own style and choice of films.
