Shooting in the wild

Upcoming photography exhibition offers a glimpse of Kenya's scenic landscape and predators in action

For wildlifeenthusiasts andphotographersalike, a trip toKenya is a greatopportunityto make some unforgettablememories -- the greatwilderness, contrastinglandscape and a widerange of predators andprey in action.

Now, you can catch someof these moments at PLDeshpande Art Gallery,Ravindra Natya Mandir,Prabhadevi, as part ofa group photographyexhibition titled Kenya -- Ajourney into the Wilderness.The 130 pictures on displayhave been shot by six amateurphotographers, duringtrips made over three years.

"These moments werecaptured during differentseasons, as differentanimals and birds can befound at the same spotdepending on when youvisit," says Atmaram Parab,one of these photographers,who clicked his pictureson display during visitsin 2009, 2010 and 2011.

And the famous MasaiMara isn't the only focusof the exhibition. While thebig cats, hippos and rhinosfind a place of pride in theworks, the photographersalso visited the AberdareRange for their Africanelephants and Lake Nakurufor their flamingo and pelicanpopulation. Parab says,"We also shot the endangeredGolayat Heron atLake Baringo and managedto catch the striped hyenaat day time." And during themigration season, they wereable to watch several wildebeest,zebras, giraffe andseveral types of deer.

Some kills and chasesadded to the excitement,and a particular incidentof a lion chasing a deermade for an interestingdiscussion. Parab says,"After a long chase, thisdeer jumped over anelectric fence nearby.Though none of us could seewhat happened to the deer,we and even the lion waitedfor 30 minutes near thefence for its return."
