‘Artist extraordinaire’: Smriti Irani pays tribute to Surekha Sikri

Smriti Irani took to Instagram to share an old video of Surekha Sikri reciting a poem.

Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani recently took to Instagram to pay her tribute to actor Surekha Sikri who died on July 16 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

“Artist extraordinaire RIP Surekha Sikri!” Smriti Irani wrote. She remembered the late actor by sharing an old video of her reciting the poem Chandni ki Paanch Partein written by Sarveshwar Dayal Saxena.

Since being shared nearly 18 hours ago, the video has gathered more than 87,000 views and the numbers are only increasing. While commenting, many fondly remembered her character Dadi Sa from the TV show Balika Vadhu. A few also wrote “RIP” to express their reactions.

Surekha Sikri died at the age of 75. The actor's last rites took place at a crematorium in Santa Cruz. The three-time National Award winner left her mark not just in films, but television too.
