Did LK Advani tear up after watching The Kashmir Files? Truth behind viral video
A video of LK Advani is going viral with a claim that he got emotional and teared up while watching the film The Kashmir Files. This claim, however, is not true.
The Kashmir Files, based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir valley in the 1990s, released in theatres on Friday. Since its release, the film has received positive reviews from those who’ve watched it. Several reactions to the film have been pouring in on social media. Among them, a video of LK Advani is going viral with a claim that he got emotional and teared up while watching the film. This claim, however, is false and the video circulating is actually old.

One such post was shared on Facebook by Ishwar Lal Chouhan. Posted in Hindi, here’s what his post reads when translated to English: “Seeing the film The Kashmir Files on Kashmiri Pandits, senior BJP leader LK Advani ji cried”.
The video shared along with the post shows the veteran politician holding back tears while sitting in a theatre. The song Teri Mitti from the film Kesari plays in the background of this clip.

Shared on March 12, the post has received over 1,000 reactions and more than 400 shares.
However, the claim that the video shows LK Advani’s reaction to the film The Kashmir Files is not true. The video is actually not recent and was recorded in February 2020.
A Google search revealed that the video was shared by filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra after the BJP leader attended a special screening of the film Shikara: The Untold Story Of Kashmiri Pandits.
Chopra shared the video on Instagram with a caption that says, “Shri L K Advani at the special screening of #Shikara. We are so humbled and grateful for your blessings and your appreciation for the film Sir”.
In fact, it is Chopra himself who can be seen consoling Advani in the video.
Hence, the claim that LK Advani cried while watching the film The Kashmir Files is false.
