Anil Kapoor chooses Karna over Arjun

“I gave him the option of playing both characters — Arjun and Karna. However, Anil chose to play Karna as he is more dynamic and is a loyal friend. As a character, he was more interesting,” says Jayantilal Gada, producer of 3D animation of Mahabharata.

A number of Bollywood stars have lent their voices to several characters in the 3D animation project, Mahabharat. However, Anil Kapoor made a special wish to dub for Karna in the film. And the makers accepted the actor’s choice.

“I gave him the option of playing both characters — Arjun and Karna. However, Anil chose to play Karna as he is more dynamic and is a loyal friend. As a character, he was more interesting,” says Jayantilal Gada, producer.

Incidentally, the characters in the film will have the celebrity’s attributes, so that audience can connect with them. Amitabh Bachchan will be seen as Bheeshma,

Vidya Balan as Draupadi, Sunny Deol as Bheem, Manoj Bajpayee as Yudhisthir, Deepti Naval as Kunti and Jackie Shroff as Duryodhana. “The characters are designed to match the personality and attributes of the Bollywood actors doing the voiceover, so there will be co-ordination between what the audiences will see and hear,” says the film’s spokesperson.

Interestingly, not only did Anil manage to get a nod for giving Karna’s voiceover in the film, he also recommended Jackie’s name. Gada says, “Anil and I were discussing the friendship that Duryodhana has with Karna in Mahabharat. In the midst of our conversation, Anil suggested that Jackie play his friend in the film (Duryodhana).”
