Actor Asha Negi of Pavitra Rishta fame, who has been on a break from acting for two years, says that web series, as a medium, offers more creative freedom to an actor as opposed to television.
Actor Asha Negi, who has been on a two-year hiatus, is set to return with a project — this time, a web series. She says that there’s far more creative freedom in the digital medium than television. “TV is usually very dramatic whereas web series tend to be more natural. The audience is obviously different — the younger generation mostly prefers to watch web series,” says Asha, adding that, “TV definitely offers a lot more money and you do get to expand yourselves [as an actor] with web series too.”
Asha will be essaying the role of a sophisticated Delhi girl in a web series — a love story that starts on a rough note and takes many twists and turns later. She shares, “[Since] it was being shot in Manali and the fact that I love to travel, so I couldn’t miss out the chance to be there.”
Asked what’s so appealing about this format, she says, “When you are a little stable in your career, you start learning things. You become sensible and realise what your choices are. The content of web series is very natural and possibly [that’s] why more people [actors] are drawn towards it.”
Asha admits that she took a break from acting due to the lack of good roles. On what kind of roles she is looking forward to, she says, “A natural character and a good story that one can connect to, is all I want. However, I want my character not to be too clichéd, since I am capable of choosing better roles.”
