, who has been associated with youth shows like Kitni Mohobbat Hai (KMH) and Gumraah, will soon return to the small screen with a new fiction show that he feels is quite unique.

In this interview, he talks to us about his projects and making it big in the industry without "godfathers".

Why did you choose to do this show?

I’ve never followed the norm, and instead, I did whatever challenged me. At the peak of my career, I did Punjabi films. I hosted a crime show when it wasn’t cool to do so, and when I chose Horror Story (2013) as my Hindi film debut, people dissuaded me. This new show on supernatural fantasy is exciting as Vikas Bahl (producer) always works on crazy concepts.

How important is visibility for an actor?

Very. Salman Khan might not need it, but

does. I’m still trying to make a mark in Bollywood, but on TV, I’m doing well even without having done hit reality shows or serials on popular channels.

How do you feel about the fact that your Hindi film failed at the box office while the Punjabi ones were hits?

I don’t have a godfather and no one has ‘launched’ me, so I’ve to choose wisely. Currently, I have two Hindi films in hand. As for Punjabi films, I act and co-produce them. I do them for fun and for a chance to stay in Punjab for a month or two while shooting. But I’ve taken a hiatus from them now.

Why do you stick to youth-oriented shows only?

I did KMH 1 and 2 and, later, Gumraah, so that’s how I started. My audience is young. Had I done family or saas-bahu dramas, I would have had a family audience. Every actor has an image and you get work accordingly.
