Amazon has released a new trailer for Jack Ryan, their lavish new reboot of the novel series by Tom Clancy. Featuring John Krasinski as the titular CIA analyst-turned-operative, the show will act as an origin story, tracing Ryan’s ascension from being a desk jockey to getting involved in an international terrorism plot.

Here’s the official synopsis: “When CIA analyst Jack Ryan stumbles upon a suspicious series of bank transfers, his search for answers pulls him from the safety of his desk job and catapults him into a deadly game of cat and mouse throughout Europe and the Middle East, with a rising terrorist figurehead preparing for a massive attack against the US and her allies.”

The series is Amazon’s biggest yet, and is designed to lead the online streaming service into a more ambitious future.

Created by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland, Jack Ryan will be unleashed on August 31. The show will also star Abbie Cornish and Wendell Pierce. Krasinski recently starred in and directed the horror smash A Quiet Place, which has made over $300 million worldwide and established the former Office star as a leading man in Hollywood.

Clancy’s character has previously been played by Harrison Ford in two films, and Ben Affleck, Alec Baldwin and Chris Pine in one film each.
