Following actors Sara Khan and Ali Merchant’s big fat Indian wedding on national TV, Sara’s parents claim it’s all a sham. Ali doesn’t love Sara and is only after her fame and money, says Sara's sister.tv Updated: Nov 12, 2010 13:08 IST
In a twist to the much hyped wedding of Sara Khan and Ali Merchant on reality TV show, Bigg Boss 4, Sara’s parents have revealed that the two had already tied the knot two years ago.
“Their nikaah took place two years ago, but we were told not to say so in the media by Merchant’s family, as that would have affected their career,” says Seema Khan, Sara’s mother. Interestingly, pictures of the couple’s nikaah, that took place on November 10, 2008 at Sara’s residence in Bhopal, surfaced in the media, a day before their wedding in the Bigg Boss house.Sara’s family also alleges that the channel organised the wedding without informing Sara about her grandmother’s demise. "We didn’t want this (screen) nikaah to happen because Sara’s grandmother passed away recently. But, despite our requests, neither the Bigg Boss team, nor Merchant, told Sara. Had they told her, she would have refused herself," said Seema.
"Ali doesn’t love Sara and is only after her fame and money," Sara’s sister Angel added. To make matters worse, some Muslim clerics came forward on Wednesday to say that for a qazi to perform a wedding that has already taken place is against Islam.
Buzz has it that Sara and Merchant were paid Rs 50 lakh to get married on TV. Refuting this, Seema said, “Sara was not paid. But Ali probably was.”
When contacted, Merchant’s family, however, continues to deny their earlier marriage. “They only got engaged” says Salma, Merchant’s mother.
