China has angrily rejected attempts to blame Beijing for the catastrophic Himalayan floods that devastated communities across Nepal and China's border region. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Chinese and Nepalese assessments traced the disaster to a high-altitude glacier collapse inside Nepal, condemning contrary claims as “malicious speculation” without evidence. Beijing also rejected allegations that it censored disaster footage, insisting information had been released transparently. With hundreds confirmed dead, thousands still missing and Chinese rescue experts joining operations inside Nepal, questions continue over the glacier collapse, debris flow and possible temporary damming of the Lhende River.
