‘We’re in this for the long haul, but there’s hope’: WHO chief on Covid crisis
The World Health Organisation has said that 184 countries are now part of the COVAX vaccine facility with Ecuador & Uruguay being the latest to join. Addressing the media, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that COVAX represents the largest portfolio of potential COVID-19 vaccines and the most effective way to share safe and effective vaccines equitably across the world. The WHO chief also added that the virus has shown on numerous occasions that it can strike back if we let our guard down and added that while the next few months will be tough, we can save lives by working together. ‘It is a very dangerous situation for both patients and health workers alike and it is important that all governments focus on the fundamentals to break the chain of transmission and save both lives & livelihoods,’ Tedros said.
