Watch | Why Delhi witnessed the worst Dengue outbreak in two decades?
This year New Delhi has had its biggest Dengue outbreak in almost two decades. More than three-fourths of the dengue cases and deaths have been registered in just the last month.Health officials note that while the number of cases this year has almost surpassed the 1996 high of 10,252, the death toll is far lower than the 423 who died from dengue 19 years ago. There are no statistics on dengue for years before 1996.Dengue is often seen as an urban disease with mosquitoes breeding in stagnant water. Outbreaks are reported every year after the monsoon season that runs from June to September.
