Bharat Ratna politics: Congress & BJP spar over honour to Veer Savarkar

A massive political controversy has broken out over Maharashtra BJP’S promise to propose Veer Savarkar’s name for the Bharat Ratna. The Congress sought to remind the BJP that had not only sought clemency from the British but was also named in the conspiracy to kill Mahatma Gandhi. The BJP hit back saying that Savarkar was a true patriot and accused the Congress party of wanting to reserve the Bharat Ratna solely for its family.
