As crimes against women increase in Meghalaya, activists and commoners took out a rally expressing their anger on leaders. An MLA was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl. Crimes against women are on the rise in the state. Data with the National Crime Records Bureau say Meghalaya reported 452 cases of child rapes between 2001 and 2011. Among the eight north-eastern states, the state was second to Tripura where 457 cases were reported during the period.
