Sericulture has emerged as a virtual lifeline and a profitable employment avenue for villagers in Maoist-affected areas in India's eastern Jharkhand. Under the aegis of the Jharkhand state industrial department, farmers are beginning to rear silkworms. A total of 687 trees have been grown on an area of 11 acres to provide the villagers with ample opportunity to rear silkworms.
