West Bengal schools in shambles in Maoist affected areas
Only two out of 10 state-run schools are functioning in a Maoist affected district of West Bengal due to lack of basic facilities. According to teachers, the schools were shutdown due to insufficient books, no facility for mid-day meals and poor infrastructure. Locals are also facing problems to send their children to schools as they are reserved by the police forces for anti-Maoist operations and more importantly the schools are located near Maoist hideouts.
