Thousands of Indian Americans gathered at the South Lawns of the White House to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi. People present at the White House lawns said that they had never seen such a massive gathering at the White House lawns. Some estimates said that anywhere between 2,000-3,000 persons were present to witness the ceremonial welcome being given to Modi, who is on his first state visit to the US.
