Tensions ahead of Tripura civic polls; TMC MPs protest 'police brutality'

A TMC delegation has sought appointment from Amit Shah over alleged police brutality in Tripura. The TMC delegation of around 10-12 MPs have reached New Delhi on Monday. Tensions between TMC & BJP are linked to the upcoming elections in the northeast state. Elections to Agartala Municipal Corporation & 12 other municipal bodies are slated for November 25. The MPs will sit on a dharna against the arrest of TMC leader Saayoni Ghosh by Tripura Police. MPs reportedly include Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Derek O'Brien Sougata Roy, Dola Sen. Ghosh was arrested on Sunday for allegedly causing ruckus at a public meet of CM Biplab Kumar Deb. Meanwhile, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee cancelled his trip to Agartala on Sunday night. TMC's Sushmita Dev, Subal Bhowmik have slammed BJP for alleged abuse of police power. The TMC leaders have also accused BJP of vandalisation of police station by its party workers. Bhowmik alleged that at least four TMC workers were injured in the incident on Sunday.
