After submarine spat, the US and French presidents moved to mend ties on Wednesday. Joe Biden held a phone call with Emmanuel Macron which the White House described as ‘friendly’. The White House also released a photograph of Biden smiling during his call with Macron. Both leaders spoke for the first time since the submarine deal was announced last week. US President Joe Biden said he will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in October. “In terms of the tone of the call, it was friendly. It was one where we’re hopeful and the president is hopeful this is a step in returning to normal in a long, important, abiding relationship that the United States has with France,” said White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki.
