In a statement to Pakistan's parliament, food minister Tariq Bashir Cheema stated that the country is facing a net wheat deficit of 2.37 million metric tons, according to The News International. The shortage also led to a rise in the price of basic commodity in Pakistan. People struggle to get subsidised packets of wheat, resulting in chaotic scenes. Experts say that the Russia-Ukraine war and floods contributed to the wheat crisis in Pakistan. Pak imports a lot of wheat from Russia and Ukraine to meet its consumption.
