Russia on August 29 claimed to have captured two more villages in eastern Ukraine amid heavy fighting in the Kursk region. Russian forces captured two villages in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Russian defence ministry said it captured the village of Mykolaivka, around 15 km from the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, as well as the settlement of Stelmakhivka in the neighbouring Luhansk region.
